MATC's Chris Barker Earns Gold Glove Award
Posted 6-29-09 - MATC outfielder and former Racine Lutheran H.S. athlete, Chris Barker, earned a 2009 NJCAA Division II Rawlings Gold Glove Award for his outstanding fielding percentage of .978.
Barker led MATC in hitting this season and is currently playing for the Madison Mallards. Chris will attending NCAA Division I University of North Carolina-Greensboro in the fall.
Open Tryouts - Mandatory Meeting Date Set
Posted 6-23-09 - MATC Baseball has scheduled their Mandatory Meeting for Monday, August 24 at 3:30 PM in Room 332. This meeting is required for all students interested in trying out for the team, recruited athletes and for all athletes returning for their second season of competition.

MATC Falls to DMACC in Championship Game
Posted 5-17-09 - MATC knew coming into Sunday's NJCAA Division II North Plains District Tournament Championship that they would need to win two games over the #3 nationally ranked Des Moines Area Community College Bears to advance to the NJCAA Division II College World Series.
Unfortunately, DMACC also knew the scenario and they jumped on MATC early and often. The Bears scored seven runs in the first three innings. Down 7-2 in the bottom of the seventh, MATC battled back with four runs on four hits to tighten up the game to one run. DMACC had the answer as they scored three runs in the top of the eighth to put the game out of reach. DMACC won 10-6 to advance to the NJCAA Division II College World Series.
Second year players Jimmy Lundstrom and Matt Soderlund each went 2-for-4 while DH Kyle Van Abel posted two RBIs. Jayme Sukowaty received the loss. MATC finished the season with a 37-12 overall record.
DMACC's Six Run Sixth Inning Drops MATC
Posted 5-16-09 - With a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning everything looked to be going MATC's way. Unfortunately, the six inning proved to be very costly as Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) scored six runs on two hits and one WolfPack error. DMACC tacked on three more runs in the next two innings to win 9-1 in the third game of the day at the NJCAA Division II North Plains District Tournament at Robin Roberts Field.
Second year centerfielder, Chris Barker, continued his hot hitting as he was 2-for-3 for the second straight game. Shortshop Taylor Schwarz was also 2-for-3 for the WolfPack. Second year righthander, Cody Winiarski received the loss as he pitched five and one-third innings, striking out four and walking seven.
MATC faces DMACC tomorrow at NOON. If MATC wins the first game, a second game will be played immediately following the first game. Tomorrow's winner advances to the NJCAA Division II College World Series in Enid, OK.
Nick Rice Pitches Gem, MATC Gets District Win
Posted 5-16-09 - In the first game of the NJCAA Division II North Plains District Tournament, MATC lefthander, Nick Rice, from Kenosha H.S., pitched a complete game shutout, giving up just three hits while striking out seven. MATC scored runs in the third, sixth and eighth innings as WolfPack bats posted eight hits and four runs to give MATC the 4-0 victory.
MATC outfielders combined for five hits and two RBIs. Second year centerfielder, Chris Barker and rightfielder, Mark Strey, each went 2-for-3 while leftfielder, Tommy Kotis, was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

MATC Captures Third Straight Region XIII Title
Posted 5-11-09 - MATC Baseball won its third straight NJCAA Region XIII title with a 14-3 victory over Williston State College in Mandan, ND.
The WolfPack jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in the Regional Championship game, defeating the Tetons 14-3 to win their third consecutive regional title.
Second-year outfielder Mark Strey went 2-for-3 in the game with a pair of RBIs, and teammate Jimmy
Lundstrom was 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI. Jayme Sukowaty (6-2) picked up the win for the WolfPack, who will host the North Plains District Tournament this coming weekend at Robin Roberts Field.
MATC Advances to Championship Game
Posted 5-9-09 - MATC advanced to the championship game of the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament in Mandan, ND with a 6-0 win over Williston State College.
Cody Winiarski pitched seven strong scoreless innings and Jared Meyer and Robby Dyson finished the game for a second round shutout.
Taylor Schwarz continued his hot hitting as he went 2-for-3 while teammate Joe Nartowicz was 3-for-4 with one RBI. Chris Barker also had two hits and Tommy Kotis had two RBIs in the win.
MATC plays Williston State at NOON on Sunday for the right to advance to the District Tournament hosted by the Region XIII champion. If MATC wins the first game they are the champions but if Williston wins, there will be another game starting approximately a half an hour after the completion of the first game.
MATC Baseball Beats Bismarck in First Round
Posted 5-9-09 - MATC won 4-2 over Bismarck State College in the first round of the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament in Mandan, ND.
MATC received a solid pitching effort from Nick Rice as he went six innings, striking out nine and giving up just one earned run. Kyle Spurley and Robby Dyson pitched in relief and combined to allow only one run.
Taylor Schwarzand Matt Soderlund each went 2-for-4 and MATC had eight hits and no errors. With the win, MATC will play tomorrow at 12:00 against Williston State College.

MATC Wins Final Game of Regular Season
Posted 5-6-09 - MATC won the final game of the regular season by beating Elgin Community College 5-1 at home.
Second year righthander, Jayme Sukowaty, did not give up an earned run over five and one-third innings to earn his fifth win of the season. Taylor Schwarz led all MATC batters going 3-for-3 with a stolen base.
Next up for the WolfPack is the NJCAA Region XIII Tournament in Mandan, ND.

MATC Sweeps South Suburban College
Posted 5-4-09 - A day after losing their first game in their last thirteen contests, the WolfPack bounced back to beat South Suburban twice in South Holland, IL.
Kyle Van Abel singled in Joe Nartowicz to take the early one-run lead in the first inning, and the WolfPack would score runs in the third, fourth, and fifth inning en rout to the 4-1 victory. Van Abel was 2-for-3 in the game with a pair of RBIs, and Cody Winiarski (5-1) struck out eight batters while walking just two in pitching the complete game victory.
In the second game with the score tied at one in the top of the seventh inning, MATC exploded for six runs and held off the Bulldogs in the bottom of the inning to take the 7-2 victory. Van Abel and Taylor Schwartz each went 2-for-4 with four RBIs collectively, and Robby Dyson (3-2) picked up the win for the WolfPack.
WolfPack Splits a Pair of Games With Joliet
Posted 5-4-09 - In the first game of a doubleheader hosted by MATC, first year shortstop Justin Scanlon laced a two-run single in the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead. The team held Joliet in the seventh inning to earn the victory. Kyle Spurley (4-0) picked up the win for the WolfPack.
In the second game a four-run second inning by Joliet proved to be the difference in the game, as MATC fell 9-5 to the Wolves. Taylor Schwartz went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and outfielder Mark Strey was 2-for-4 in the losing effort. First year pitcher Tyler Jones (2-2) took the loss for the WolfPack.
MATC Wins 18th Consecutive Conference Title
Posted 5-4-09 - When it comes to MATC baseball history has a way of repeating itself, and that held true on Friday as the WolfPack earned its 18th consecutive WTCC Title in convincing fashion at Robin Roberts Field.
In the first game of the tournament MATC faced Milwaukee Area Technical College. The WolfPack broke the game open in the second inning, scoring six runs off of five hits in taking the early lead. The team would add three more runs in taking the 9-0 win. Pitcher Bob Stone (4-0) picked up the win on the hill, striking out five in five-and-two-thirds innings of work.
In the second game versus Western Tech., MATC scored three runs in the second inning to once again take an early lead. The team would go on to win the game 9-0. Mark Strey went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI, and Joe Nartowicz was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs. Cody Griebling (3-1) picked up the win, going the distance and striking out 7 while walking just two batters.
Highland CC Game Cancelled for Tomorrow
Posted 4-30-09 - The Highland Community College game scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled. MATC will play the WTCC Conference Tournament tomorrow at 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM.

MATC Wins Tenth Straight, Beats Elgin CC
Posted 4-30-09 - The MATC Baseball team won its tenth straight game in beating Elgin Community College 9-4 in nine innings on Wednesday at Robin Roberts Baseball Field.
Jared Meyer earned his fourth win of the season by pitching seven and one-third, striking out five and giving up four earned runs. Second year outfielder Chris Barker was 3-for-5 and teammates Jimmy Lundstrom and Justin Scanlon were each 2-for-4 with three RBIs each. MATC improved to 27-9 overall.
MATC Gets By College of Lake County
Posted 4-29-09 - The MATC Baseball team picked up a pair of close wins on their home field Thursday, improving their overall record to 26-9 on the season.
The WolfPack got off to a quick start in the first game, scoring three runs off of four hits to take the early lead. The pitchers dueled for the rest of the game, as each team remained scoreless until the Lancers plated two in the top of the sixth to close the gap to just a run. That's as close as they would get however, as MATC held on to the 3-2 win. Taylor Schwarz went 2-for-3 for the WolfPack with a pair of RBIs, while Cody Winiarski (4-1) picked up the win on the hill, striking out ten while allowing just one walk in pitching a complete game.
Hits were hard to come by in the second game as well, as each team garnered just three in the contest. First year catcher Justin Hunt brought in in Taylor Schwartz via a sacrifice bunt in the second inning, and the team would add one more score to take the early 2-0 lead. The WolfPack would tack on a pair of runs in the sixth inning to win the game 4-1. Pitcher Nick Rice (2-1) picked up the win, striking out six and allowing just three hits over six innings of work.
MATC Will Play Elgin CC Tomorrow
Posted 4-28-09 - The MATC Baseball team will play Elgin CC tomorrow in one nine inning game at 4:00 PM at Robin Roberts Baseball Field. The WolfPack were originally scheduled to play Sauk Valley CC and that doubleheader was cancelled.
MATC Beats UW-Club Team in Six Innings
Posted 4-28-09 - The MATC Baseball team scored eleven runs on ten hits over six innings to beat the visiting University of Wisconsin Club Team on Monday night.
Jayme Sukowaty earned his fourth win of the season by striking out five batters and giving up just one earned run over six innings of work. Second year outfielder, Mark Strey was 3-for-3 with four RBIs while teammate Tommy Kotis was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. MATC improved to 24-9 overall.

MATC Cruises to Sweep of Western Tech
Posted 4-23-09 - MATC Baseball cruised to a sweep of Western Technical College on Wednesday night to claim the Wisconsin Technical College Conference title for the eighteenth consecutive year.
In the first game, MATC scored twelve runs over the first three innings and allowed the visiting Cavaliers just three hits as the WolfPack cruised in five innings, 12-0. MATC righthander, Cody Winiarski earned his third win of the season by pitching five scoreless innings and striking out six batters. Chris Barker was 3-for-3 with three RBIs while teammate Travis Tuschen was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Shortstop Taylor Schwarz was 2-for4 with a game high four RBIs.
In the second game it was all MATC as the WolfPack scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back, cruising to a 11-0 win. Bob Stone pitched five scoreless innings to improve his record to 3-0. Taylor Schwarz and Mark Strey each went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

WolfPack Takes Two Versus MATC-Milwaukee
Posted 4-20-09 - The WolfPack picked up a pair of wins against conference foe Milwaukee Area Technical College on Saturday, April 18, in Milwaukee, WI.
In the first game, MATC batters peppered the Stormers' pitchers for 12 hits over seven innings in the 4-2 victory. First year pitcher Tyler Jones (2-1), from Marquette University High School, picked up the win for the WolfPack.
MATC won the second game of the doubleheader 10-8, with more details to follow.
WolfPack Sweeps North Arkansas CC
Posted 4-20-09 - MATC played host to the Pioneers on Friday, April 17, and came away with a pair of wins at Robin Roberts Field.
The first game saw the WolfPack jump out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when Taylor Schwarz singled in Joe Nartowicz with two outs in the inning. Second year outfielder Mark Strey followed that with an RBI triple, and MATC led by two after one.
The team would add three more runs in the fifth in taking the 5-3 victory. Strey and Schwarz both finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Jared Meyer (3-0) pitched a complete game in picking up the win.
In the second game the WolfPack once again got the bats working early, as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning. North Arkansas CC would answer however, as the Pioneers led 5-4 heading into the seventh inning. Chris Barker singled in Kevin Wild to tie the game at 5, and then quickly stole second. With two outs in the bottom of the inning, first year infielder Kyle Van Abel singled to left field, bringing in Barker and the game winning run in dramatic fashion.
Van Abel finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Kevin Wild (1-0) picked up the win for the WolfPack.

MATC Splits Doubleheader wtih Elgin CC
Posted 4-17-09 - MATC split a doubleheader on Thursday against Elgin Community College in Elgin, IL.
In the first game, second year righthander, Cody Winiarski pitched six strong innings, giving up only four hits and no runs on his way to his second win of the season. Firstbaseman, Joe Nartowicz, was 2-for-4 with one RBI in the 3-0 win.
In the second game, MATC was tied 8-8 going into the bottom of the ninth and gave up one run to lose 9-8. Robby Dyson received the loss in relief. Despite out hitting Elgin, the WolfPack committed four costly errors. Travis Tuschen was 3-for-5 with one RBI while four other teammates had two hits each.

WolfPack Splits Doubleheader Versus Western
Posted 4-11-09 - MATC Baseball split a doubleheader against Western Technical College on Saturday, April 11th at Viterbo University Field in La Crosse, WI.
In the first game, MATC fell behind early as they trailed 3-0 after two innings. MATC posted one run in the third and fifth but the host Cavailers tacked on two more in the fifth to win 5-2 in seven innings. Jimmy Lundstrom was 1-for-2 and Robby Dyson received the loss.
In the second game, the WolfPack offense came alive as the team scored 17 runs on 15 hits over five innings including eight runs in the fourth inning. MATC won 17-0. Joe Nartowicz was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and Travis Tuschen was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Nick Rice received the shutout as he allowed just three hits in five innings of work. MATC improved to 2-1 in conference play.
WolfPack Keeps Rolling, Sweeps Illinois Valley
Posted 4-10-09 - MATC's bats came alive in the first half of the doubleheader, as MATC clipped the Eagles 12-0. Mark Strey blasted a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning, and the team took an early 5-0 lead after one.
While leading 10-0 in the fourth inning, first year outfielder John Perszyk belted his second homer of the season, a two-run shot that brought in Strey. Cody Griebling (1-1) pitched a complete game, giving up just one hit while striking out five in the win.
In the second game, second year pitcher Jayme Sukowaty (3-2) held the visitors to just two hits over five innings of work, and the team scored 10 runs off of five hits in picking up the lopsided 10-0 win.
MATC Downs UW-Club Team
Posted 4-10-09 - The Baseball team picked up a pair of wins against the club team from UW-Madison on Wednesday, allowing them to score just one run in the two combined games.
Cody Winiarski (1-1) took the mound in the first half of the twin bill, and gave up just one hit while striking out seven through six innings of work in picking up the 6-1 win.
In the second game the WolfPack broke open a scoreless game in the fourth inning when second year infielder Taylor Schwartz hit a sac fly to right field to bring in Jimmy Lundstrom. The team would go on to score three more runs in the inning, and added another in the fifth to make the final score 5-0.
Schwartz finished the day 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, while second year pitcher Bob Stone (2-0) picked up the win for the WolfPack.

MATC Sweeps Milwaukee
Posted 4-8-09 - In their home opener at Robin Roberts Field, the WolfPack won a pair of games against conference foe Milwaukee Area Technical College on Tuesday, April 7.
Second year first baseman Joe Nartowicz got things started early in the first game as he cracked an RBI single to right field in taking a 1-0 lead after one inning. First year short stop Justin Scanlon and Chris Barker each collected an RBI in the second, and MATC would score twice more in the third and sixth innings in cruising to the 7-1 victory.
Second year pitcher Jared Meyer (2-0) picked up the win on the hill for MATC, giving up just three hits and striking out four over six innings of work. Nartowicz, Kyle Van Abel, Tommy Kotis, and Justin Hunt all had a pair of hits for the WolfPack, who collected 14 throughout the game.
The second half of the twin bill was a pitcher's duel, as the teams combined for just seven hits in the game. Second year outfielder Drew Tometczak singled in Matt Soderlund in the second inning to take an early lead, and that proved to be the difference in the 1-0 win. Kyle Spurley (3-0) pitched a complete game for the WolfPack, giving up just three hits over seven innings.
WolfPack Drops A Pair To Kankakee CC
Posted 4-6-09 - MATC travelled to Kankakee, IL, on saturday and fell to the Cavaliers twice in close contests, 2-0 and 6-5.
In the first game of the double-header, MATC struggled to get base runners, as they collected just three hits over seven innings. Jayme Sukowaty pitched a solid game on the hill, giving up five hits and a pair of runs in taking the loss.
The second game was another close contest, as MATC led 5-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but allowed the Cavaliers to score three runs in the final two innings to move their record to 9-9 on the young season.
Second year outfielder Chris Barker continued to swing a hot bat, going 3-for-3 on the day with 3 RBIs, while teammate Tommy Kotis was 2-for-3. The bullpen struggled in closing out the game, as Cody Winiarski took the loss for the WolfPack.

Stone Throws No-Hitter, MATC Wins Two
Posted 4-4-09 - Second year pitcher Bob Stone, a former Marquette Senior H.S. (MI) athlete, pitched a no-hitter in the second game of a double-header as MATC cruised to a 18-0 thrashing over Rockford College JV in Rockford, IL.
Stone struck out four and walked just one batter in accomplishing the feat, and his teammates provided plenty of backup power in the win. Every batter for MATC garnered at least one hit, and the WolfPack scored runs in every inning in the lopsided victory.
In the first game, Travis Tuschen lined a two-run single to center field to get the ball rolling in the second inning, and MATC would add five more runs in the inning in taking the early lead.
Joe Nartowicz blasted a three-run homer in the sixth to put the game out of reach, as the WolfPack scored six runs in the inning to put the game away. Second year outfielder Chris Barker went 3-for-5 on the day with an RBI, Nartowicz finished the game 1-for-2 with 3 RBIs, and Tuschen 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs in the 13-1 victory. First year pitcher Tyler Jones picked up the win for the WolfPack, sriking out five and allowing just three hits in the game.
MATC Sweeps Highland CC in Freeport, IL
Posted 4-3-09 - MATC picked up a pair of wins at the expense of Highland Community College on Thursday, April 2, in Freeport, IL.
MATC scored early and often in the first game , as the WolfPack scored four runs off of five hits in the top of the first inning, and didn't let up from there. MATC would go on to score in every inning while holding Highland scoreless in taking the 12-0 victory.
Kyle Spurley pitched a solid game, striking out seven batters while giving up just two hits in picking up the win.
The WolfPack picked up right where they left off in the second game, as first baseman Joe Nartowicz blasted a two-run double in the top of the first inning to give MATC an early lead once again. MATC would go on to score two more runs in the inning, en route to the 6-1 victory.
Robby Dyson picked up the win, giving up just four hits over five innings of work for the WolfPack.

MATC Splits Pair Against Kishwaukee CC
Posted 3-25-09 - The #18 nationally ranked MATC Baseball team split a pair of games with Kishwaukee Community College in Malta, IL.
In the first game, MATC had five errors and managed just five hits as Kishwaukee scored five runs in the final two innings to put the game away. Nick Rice pitched well despite receiving the loss. He struck out nine batters and gave up no earned runs in four innings of work. Rightfielder Brett Sweger was 2-for-3 as MATC fell 7-2.
In the second game, Jayme Sukowaty, second year starting pitcher, pitched a complete game shutout, giving up only three hits and striking out two batters. MATC cruised to a 6-0 win as Justin Scanlon went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and teammate Kyle Van Abel also went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

MATC Ends Trip with Win over Phoenix College
Posted 3-20-09 - MATC Baseball finished up their spring trip where the trip began... with the same result. MATC won 7-6 over host Phoenix College in Phoenix, AZ. With the win, MATC finished their spring trip with a mark of 4-4.
Thirdbaseman Taylor Schwarz continued his hot streak going 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs. Also, in his first game back after an early trip injury, centerfielder Chris Barker went 2-for-4 and as did rightfielder Brett Sweger. Robby Dyson received the win by pitching three innings with no earned runs and Cody Winiarski recorded the save.
MATC Cruises to Win Over Paradise Valley CC
Posted 3-19-09 - MATC recorded double-digit hits for the third consecutive game to lead them to a 13-1 win over host Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, AZ.
Taylor Schwarz was 4-for-6 with four RBIs while nine other WolfPack batters had one or more hits. Second year righthander, Jayme Sukowaty, improved his record to 1-1 by pitching five and two-thirds innings, giving up just one earned run and striking out four.
MATC Loses to Pima CC in Bottom of Ninth
Posted 3-18-09 - At Pima Community College in Tucson, AZ, the MATC Baseball team was tied 5-5 going into the bottom of the ninth before Pima's centerfielder hit a bases loaded, RBI single to win the game for the NJCAA Division I Aztecs.
Led by shortstop, Justin Scanlon's 3-for-3 batting, MATC out hit the host Aztecs. Righthander Tyler Jones received the loss pitching three and two-thirds.
MATC Bats Help Earn Win over Mesa CC
Posted 3-16-09 - MATC Baseball claimed their first win over an Arizona opponent during this spring trip as the team exploded for 16 hits and 13 runs.
After trailing 7-4 after five innings, MATC scored at least two runs in each of the last four innings to win 13-11. Shortshop Justin Scanlon was 3-for-4 and four other WolfPack batters had at least two hits in the the 16 hit outburst. Matt Soderlund and Tanner Vavre each recorded two RBIs. Righthanded reliever, Kyle Spurley, pitched three innings and gave up just one earned run to receive his first win of the season. MATC improved to 2-3 on the season.
Scottsdale CC Sweeps MATC Baseball
Posted 3-14-09 - MATC Baseball lost both games of their doubleheader against Scottsdale Community College in Scottsdale, AZ.
In the first game, MATC out hit the host Artichokes 13 to 12 but could not stop Scottsdale from scoring runs of their own. With the WolfPack up by one in the bottom of the ninth Scottsdale scored the tying run to send the game into extra innings. After a scoreless tenth, Scottsdale scored with two outs in the bottom of the eleventh inning to win the game.
Third baseman Taylor Schwarz was 3-for-6 and three players posted two RBIs including Jim Lundstrom, Chris Barker and Matt Soderlund. Four MATC pitchers appeared in the game giving up ten earned runs. Chevy Tollefson received the loss pitching the final two and two-thirds as MATC fell 11-10 in extra innings.
In the second game, the Artichokes jumped out to a 6-0 lead before MATC scored a run in the fourth inning and Scottsdale answered with two more runs in the fifth inning. The WolfPack made it closer by scoring five runs in the sixth but that is as close as they got. Taylor Schwarz had two RBIs while Jayme Sukowaty received the loss.
Glendale CC Scores Early in WolfPack Loss
Posted 3-13-09 - MATC Baseball lost the first game of the year as Glendale Community College scored all nine of their runs in the first three innings. WolfPack managed to score five runs over the final six innings and received solid relief pitching but it was not enough as MATC fell to 1-1 with a 9-5 loss.
Offensively, Chris Barker continued his solid hitting going 2-for-4 while Brett Sweger was 2-for-3 and Justin Hunt posted two RBIs. Cody Griebling received the loss as he pitched two and one third innings, giving up eight hits and five earned runs. Next up for the WolfPack is a doubleheader against Scottsdale Community College tomorrow noon.
MATC Baseball Wins Season Opener in Arizona
Posted 3-12-09 - MATC Baseball claimed an 8-2 win over Illinois Central in their season opener and first game of the spring trip.
With MATC up by four runs in the bottom of the seventh, after scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, second year outfielder, Chris Barker hit a two run homerun to break open the game. Barker went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while teammate Matt Soderlund was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Second year lefthander, Jared Meyer gave up just one earned run in five innings of work to earn the win. MATC will play Glendale Community College tomorrow at 3:00 PM.
