WolfPack Win Second Straight Region XIII Title
Posted 5-11-08 - MATC Baseball won its second consecutive NJCAA Region XIII title as they jumped all over Williston State College in the first three innings. The WolfPack scored eight runs on seven hits over those first three innings to push out to an early 8-0 lead. Williston put three runs on the board in the sixth inning and added another two runs in the seventh but that would be as close as they got. MATC addded three more runs over the final two innings to win 11-5.

Firstbasemen David Lojeski was 3-for-4 with an RBI while teammate Evan Kohli was 3-for-5. Catcher Luke Marwitz recorded a game high three RBIs and was 1-for-2 for the game. Righthander Cody Winiarski earned his fifth win of the season as he struck out eight and gave up no earned runs in seven inning of work. Lucas Annen pitched two innings in relief giving up just one hit.

The region title was the program's second straight and fourth in the last five years. MATC advances to the NJCAA District Title Series on Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18 at a site yet to be determined.

Lyle Hanson - Williams Family Award Speech

MATC Athletic Director, Steve Hauser said,  "Today we lost a wonderful man who truly cared for every student that he taught and each student-athlete he had contact with.  He always told me that each person has the ability to succeed but that they might not know it.  He felt that his job was for them to know that they did, in fact, have it in them - that he would never quit on them and that he would make sure that they did not quit on themselves.  Lyle was a very special friend to us all.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Lyle, Shirley, Erik and Bjorn and the entire extended family.  We know that Lyle is now at peace."
