 HEAD COACH - TOBY PARKER

 

Head Women's Volleyball Coach - Toby Parker Toby Parker

Hired in the spring of 2005, Toby Parker has amassed an impressive 78-24-1 overall record. His teams have won back-to-back conference and state titles while finishing in the top 10 in the final NJCAA Division III national polls over the past two seasons. In addition, MATC Volleyball has produced its first three All-Americans in just two years.

During the 2007-08 season, MATC won conference and state titles. The team fell one match short of advancing to the national tournament, earning a NJCAA Region XIII-A runners-up finish. His team finished the season with a 24-10-1 overall record and was ranked #7 nationally in the final NJCAA Division III Women's Volleyball poll. Outside hitter, Maggie Tipler earned Honorable Mention All-American honors.

Parker came to MATC with a wealth of coaching experience at both the high school and USAV Junior Olympic Volleyball level. Over the course of his sixteen-year volleyball career, he has compiled a cumulative record of 505-267 (.655) coaching high school, club and college teams.  His athletes and teams have achieved success at conference, state and national levels.

During his high school coaching career, Parker produced thirty-four High School all-conference players, six conference Players-of-the-Year and sent over thirty of his former players on to compete at the collegiate level. He has also seen three of his former players become college All-Americans and had the privilege of coaching a former Olympian. Parker founded the Midwest Juniors Volleyball Club in 1998, which is currently one of the largest Junior Olympic volleyball programs in Wisconsin. 

Coach Parker is a former indoor AA club player and a professional outdoor player, competing on both the Eastern Volleyball Association tour as well as the Midwest Volleyball Professionals tour.  Parker was born and raised in Madison, WI.  He currently lives in Verona, WI with his wife, Holly, their daughter, Grace and triplets Emma, Chloe and Cody.  In addition to coaching at MATC, Parker owns his own business, The Sports Management Group.

Leslie Newell is in her first year as MATC assistant Women's Volleyball coach.

Newell grew up in Merrillville, Indiana and attended Merrillville High School. As middle blocker in high school, she was named Merrillville Times Co-Player of the Year in her senior season.

After high school she signed with the University of Cincinnati. At the University of Cincinnati (UC) she excelled. In her senior year, Newell served as a team captain and ranked fifth in Conference USA with a .322 hitting percentage. For her career she ranks in the top 10 in UC history in block assists and hitting percentage while also finishing her career with 953 kills. Newell also holds the fourth and fifth highest single match hitting performances in school history.

Newell graduated with a major in finance in 2004 and currently works as a Financial Planner. She has helped coach several volleyball clubs and camps inlcuding Dunes and Midwest Juniors Volleyball Clubs.

Kelly McCarthy, a former MATC student-athlete, is in her first year as MATC assistant Women's Volleyball coach.

McCarthy grew up in Highland, WI where she attended Highland High School. At Highland she was a three-sport athlete who earned all-conference honors in both volleyball and softball.

After high school, McCarthy came to MATC. At MATC, she has also been a versitile multiple sport athlete playing volleyball for two seasons (2004-2005), basketball for one season (2006-07) and softball for one season (2007). In volleyball, she earned all-conference and all-region honors in her second season. She is third all-time in school history in both career kills and eighth all-time in career blocks.

In addition to coaching she currently works as a project coordinator at Miron Construction.
