Members of the Madison Area Technical College-Watertown "Relay for Life" team raised $3,110 for the annual American Cancer Society event held at the Watertown High School athletic field in August. This is the fourth year in a row that the campus group has qualified for a Bronze Team Award by raising more than $2,500.
The team has participated in the local Relay for Life since 2004. During the past six years, the group has raised $15,677.
The theme for this year’s event was Music for a Cure, and the MATC-Watertown team chose "The Lion King Circle of Life" for their campsite emphasis. Team members collected pledges online and in person, put together a Lion King gift basket for the silent auction, and conducted a rubber duckie pond game for children at their site.
Previous team camp sites have featured the Olympics, Star Wars, Alice in Wonderland, Happy Days, and Friday the 13th. Fundraisers throughout the years included silent auction baskets, bake sales, chili dumps, hot dog days, and pizza and salad sales.
Watertown clerical technician Susan Padron chaired the Relay for Life team all six years. Faculty and staff members who also participated included Jackie Arndt, Paul Barribeau, Cindy Bingham, Maryann Dubree, Cris Folk, Georgene Hughes, Kent Koebke, Sue Kotur, Joyce Otterstatter, Chris Owens, Pat Polensky, Don Wegner (pictured right), Susan Wollin, and Chris Yero.
This is another great example of how our college gives back to the community!
