Redfield to Give Gallery Talk
Wed, 02/24/2010 - 14:41 — rgee
Stop by the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) on State Street this Friday evening for a talk by English instructor Karen Redfield. Karen will discuss Native American imagery in the museum's exhibition "Apple Pie."
She will explore the range of these images and discuss how contemporary Native American artists such as Brad Kahlhamer and writers such as Lise Erdrich (whose sisters, Heidi and Louise are also writers) play with iconic imagery as they share their experiences of being Native and being American in the twenty-first century.
Karen has taught Native American Literature at the college for 10 years. She is featured in American Indian Rhetorics of Survivance: Word Medicine, Word Magic (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2006). This April, she will facilitate the first Native American Writers Conversation here in Madison.
This is a free event; please meet in the main galleries promptly at 6:30 pm.
