The Red Badge of Courage

Madison College Performing Arts warmly invites you to attend "The Red Badge of Courage." The presentation is running November 4-13 in Truax Studio Theater 206.

Red Badge of CourageIn recognition of the Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War, we're presenting this classic and poignant coming-of-age story written especially for family audiences. This one-act play was developed from Stephen Crane’s classic novel by award winning playwright Kathryn Schultz Miller. True to the novel, this dramatic play is known for its distinctive style, dramatic battle sequences and touching narrative. The play shares the story of Henry Fleming, a young Union private, who faced with horrors and hardship of war, must come to terms with his deepest fears and in doing so, embarks on a journey of self discovery and personal growth.

Directed by Robin Fonfara, this dramatic staging of The Red Badge of Courage features breath-taking Civil War period costumes designed by Mary Waldhart, and imaginative set and lighting design by D. Corey Helser. Fight choreography for the show was created by Eric Sherpe.

Audience members are also invited to special post show presentations by the 2nd Wisconsin Co. K Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Civil War re-enactors group on November 4, 11, and 12. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the uniforms, personal gear and weapons of the average Union foot soldier.
