Bobbie J. Curtis, age 59, passed away suddenly at home on April 8.
She was born Oct. 15, 1951, in Luverne, Ala., to Jeff and Carrie Curtis. Bobbie joined King's Chapel AME Zion Church at an early age. She graduated from Woodford High School in Luverne as the valedictorian in 1969. Bobbie graduated from UW-Madison and was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority. Bobbie worked as an administrator/teacher for Head Start. She left Head Start to teach Early Childhood at Madison College until illness (lupus) caused her to retire.
Bobbie is survived by her mother, Carrie Curtis of Luverne, Ala.; a sister, Diane Russell of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Jesse Curtis; and sister, Brenda Curtis both of Madison; and friend and longtime companion, Nelson Waugh of Madison; and many nieces, nephews and friends in Wisconsin and Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jeff Curtis; two sisters, Annie Rutledge and Mary Folmar; and grandmother, Rosie Day.
There will be a funeral service on Thursday, April 14, at 10:30 a.m. at Cress Funeral Service, 6021 University Ave. with the Rev. Larry Jackson presiding. There will be visitation for family and friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. Bobbie will be laid to rest in her hometown of Luverne, Ala., at a later date.
