The Brown Bag Book Club at the Madison College Watertown Campus Library is off to another interesting year. Nationally known author, Jennifer Thompson-Cannino, author of Picking Cotton: Our Memoir of Injustice and Redemption joined the book club discussion via telephone conference on September 14.
The book is a true story that began in 1984, when a man broke into 22 year-old Jennifer Thompson apartment and committed a brutal crime. She escaped and picked her attacker, Ron Cotton, out of a lineup, sending him to prison. Eleven years later, with the help of DNA evidence, the innocent Ron Cotton was released from prison. Jennifer and Ron eventually meet and what transpires is a compelling story of courage and the power of forgiveness.
