Forrest Whitson, age 72, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at his home.
He was born on Sept. 20, 1938, in Boyd, Ky., the son of Roy and Nellie Whitson. Forrest graduated in 1956 from Georgetown High School, in Georgetown, Ohio. With his parents permission, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps at age 17 and served for three years.
After his service, Forrest attended Madison Area Technical College in the industrial food program. He married Linda Cairns on Sept. 27, 1977, in Lake Geneva. Forrest worked as executive chef at Maple Bluff Country Club for 13 years. He was a culinary instructor at Madison Area Technical College for 20 years.
Forrest is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Forrest (Johanna) Whitson Jr. of Dallas, Texas; daughters, Janine Whitson and Courtney Cairns-Whitson; and three grandchildren, Allie Rose Whitson, Kellan and Chloe Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at Gunderson East Funderal Home, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, with the Rev. Calvin Harfst presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the time of service on Friday.
