Denim Day for Breast Cancer Research
Mon, 09/21/2009 - 07:52 — wbessette
Lee National Denim Day is one of the largest single-day fundraisers and has raised more than $75 million in the fight against breast cancer.
On Friday, October 2, join the MATC community by putting on your jeans and making a minimum $5 contribution to the Women’s Cancer Programs of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF).
Most people have been touched by breast cancer in some way; whether a family member, a friend, or even themselves. On Lee National Denim Day you can fight back by wearing denim and making a contribution that will support the work of the Women’s Cancer Program:
• Funding Lee laboratories nationwide to find more effective, less toxic breast cancer treatments,
• Development of a blood test for earlier detection of breast cancer when survival rates are highest,
• Helping the National Breast Cancer Coalition’s grassroots advocacy and education efforts,
• Helping the Right Action for Women which educates women about what it means to be “high risk” and hopes to provide assistance to individuals at increased risk for breast cancer who cannot afford the high costs associated with breast screenings.
Did you know?
• More than 182,000 women and nearly 2,000 men were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2008.
• Approximately 40,480 women and 450 men died from breast cancer in 2008.
• Only 5 to 10 percent of breast cancers are due to an inherited gene mutation.
• There are more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
So join the fight--wear your jeans on October 2 and give generously! Truax campus will be collecting donations in the cafeteria Wednesday through Friday, September 30 – October 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other Madison sites and regional campuses will be collecting on Friday, October 2. Donations can also be made online. Click on “Participate”, then “Donate to a Team Online”. Then enter MATC team ID number 225591.
