Consumer Reports and Math
Tue, 10/20/2009 - 12:01 — wbessette
Most of us have read Consumer Reports...but did you know the magazine uses a lot of math when it tests everything from DVD players to washing machines?
Professor Michael Saccucci, the Director of Statistics and Quality Management at Consumer Reports, will test paint and beer at the 88th monthly Math Club presentation on Friday, October 23. The presentation gets underway at 3:30 p.m. in Truax room 209.
Professor Saccucci will talk about some of the ways they use statistics and mathematics at Consumers Reports. His discussion will include how they design their experiments, a brief introduction of how they develop ratings, and an algorithm he developed to help identify CR Best Buys.
