The Clarion staff received a first-place award for Best of Show in the Associated Collegiate Press annual national college media convention held Oct. 27 - 31 in Louisville, KY.

Competing in the two-year college tabloid 4-16 pages category, The Clarion entered its Oct. 13, 2010, edition. It was the second time The Clarion has received a first-place award in the national competition.

Students who attended the conference included: Cristalyne Bell, editor; Sarah Blaskey, managing editor; Christian Schmidt, opinion editor; George Treviranus, designer; Dan Schott, office manager; Ryan Spoehr, staff writer; and Vishmaa Ramsaroop-Briggs, advertising director.

The Associated Collegiate Press is the nation's largest and oldest national membership organization for college student media. More than 20,000 students work at member publications. Students from more than 400 collegiate publications attend the fall convention, which is usually held in late October.

Wisconsin schools fared well in the Best of Show competitions. The UW-Oshkosh Advance-Titan won first place in the four-year weekly broadsheet category, while The Marquette Tribune earned first place in the four-year weekly tabloid. UW-Madison's Badger Herald placed seventh in the four-year daily broadsheet category and eighth in the special section competition among four-years schools.

    Congratulations Clarion Staff!
