Center for Adult Learning Gets Special Visitors

Center for Adult LearningRecently, 21 Congressional staff members from Washington, D.C. visited Madison College to learn about the work of the Center for Adult Learning (CAL) and its innovative Career Pathways Academy model. The group started the day with a welcome from Dr. Bettsey Barhorst and then heard from Keith Cornille, Vice President of Student Development; Nancy Woodward, Director of Adult Learning; Christopher Vandall, Associate Dean of College Preparedness; Lisa Lomasney, Workplace Skills Instructor; and representatives from the Wisconsin Technical College System Office and Department of Workforce Development.

After the morning learning session, the guests had lunch with Center for Adult Learning Academy students and faculty and enjoyed a demonstration of the Mobile Health Simulator unit by Antonio Re, Associate Dean of CHASE, and Leif Erickson, Madison College instructor.

The Congressional staff members chose to visit Madison College because of the unique relationship with the Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin and the nationally recognized Center for Adult Learning. Together the Workforce Development Board and CAL have created a center that fosters increased academic success and workforce readiness through redesigned support systems, innovative instructional delivery, and integrated workforce development and community college assets and systems. Congressional staff members were interested in how they could replicate, in their own states, the work that Madison College has done.
