Student Ambassador Position Description
Position: Madison College Student Ambassador
Hours: Flexible (See Time Commitment Below)
Compensation: $8.95/ hour as of July 1, 2010 (work study or Student Help Position).
Duration: July 2010 – July 1, 2011
Reports to: Renee Alfano, Director of Student Life; Doug Kirchberg, Student Ambassador Coordinator
Responsibilities:
- Attend trainings, retreats and orientations for the Student Ambassador program.
- Serve as a positive role model for youth and new students.
- Contribute and interact positively and persuasively with new and prospective students.
- Are knowledgeable about Madison College services and programs in order to provide referrals for new and prospective students.
- Serve as a peer advisor and resource person for fellow students by working as an online Student Interest Group Coordinator, posting advice and information on the Student Ambassador Blog and assisting at college-wide events.
- Help coordinate leadership training for Madison College student by helping to plan and promote a regular leadership workshop series and the Student Life Leadership Certificate program.
- Provide college tours to prospective Madison College students and community members.
- Portray the Madison College experience. Acquaint new students with Madison College’s traditions, regulations, programs, services, activities, and building locations.
- Serve as Orientation Student Leaders in the months of November, May and June.
- Assist new students with understanding their academic responsibilities, general education requirements and registration.
- Work events as assigned, including, but not limited to: WolfPack Welcome – Mid to late August in fall, early January in spring; Welcome Back Event – First two days of fall and spring semester; Madison College graduation ceremony in December and May; Student Awards Banquet and Foundation Breakfast in April; Events requested by the Madison College President and Board.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative Grade Point Average and in good academic standing.
- Enrolled in at least six credits at Madison College during Student Ambassador Program.
- Possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills as well as leadership qualities.
- Reliable, flexible and punctual. Available to work on occasional evenings and weekends.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team and facilitate group discussions and present to small and large groups of people within a diverse population.
- Enjoy assisting others and contributing to their success as well as the success of Madison College.
- Desire to learn about Madison College, its traditions, regulations, programs and services.
Time Commitment:
- Attend paid Student Ambassador training sessions this summer. Schedule to be determined.
- Attend Student Ambassador meetings (one hour every other week).
- Lead tours for prospective students as time permits. Tours are provided weekly.
- Serve as New Student Orientation Leaders in late November. If assigned this task, you will work up to 10 hours a week at this time.
- Serve as New Student Orientation Leaders the months of May and June. If assigned this task, you will work up to 20 hours per week, after commencement.
- Participate in college-wide events as available.
- Assist with the Student Ambassador service project.
- Serve in one of the following Student Ambassador roles (hours will vary): Student Interest Group facilitator, Leadership Team member, Web site and promotions manager (1 student), Event and tour coordinator (1 student).
Awards and recognitions:
- Opportunity to apply to be a candidate for the WTCS State Ambassador Program.
- Upon successful completion of the Student Ambassador Program, recognition and honors will be received from Madison College’s President and other college leadership or groups as applicable.
- Student Ambassadors will be publicized in Madison College announcements, publications, bulletin boards and web pages.
