What criteria are used to determine membership?

Phi Theta Kappa membership is based on academic achievement. Students must be enrolled in a regionally accredited institution offering an associate degree program, must complete a minimum of 12 hours coursework leading to an associate degree, and must enjoy full rights of citizenship. Each chapter determines the cumulative grade point average that must be achieved in order to become a member of that chapter as well as that which must be maintained to retain membership status. Beta beta Psi Chapter requires a 3.75 grade point average for membership and members must maintain a 3.65 cumulative grade point thereafter.

What about students who attend college in the United States but are not U.S. citizens?

International students are welcome to become members. They must meet the eligibility standards listed above, including full rights of citizenship in their country.

Can a part-time student become a member?

Most chapters accept part-time members who meet all the eligibility requirements.

How do you become a member of Phi Theta Kappa?

The Beta Beta Psi Chapter extends invitations to students who meet the eligibility requirements.

Is participation a requirement?

Participation in chapter activities is not a requirement for membership. Phi Theta Kappa's Constitution requires only that a member achieve and maintain a certain grade point average. Beta Beta Psi realizes three types of membership: Regular, Enhanced, and Alumni. Our chapter encourages its membership to become Enhanced Members which entails earning service hours for unpaid service to the college, community, and Phi Theta Kappa, as well as participation in Phi Theta Kappa activities. Enhanced members enjoy the benefits of regular members and additional letters of recommendation from advisors, invitations to the Holiday Party and Annual Banquet, a Certificate of Enhanced Membership. a Phi Theta Kappa stole and tassel for graduation, and Enhanced Member T-shirt and a Phi Theta Kappa sweatshirt, depending upon the number of semesters one has achieved Enhanced Member status.

What does it cost to become a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Beta Beta Psi?

The total amount one must pay to become a member is $85.00. This includes $45.oo for international membership, $5.00 for regional dues, and $15.00 for our local chapter. Dues are a one time payment.
